GENERAL SESSIONS

General Session 1: “Viewing Porn is Easy”

In our opening session, we will look at the world of pornography and how it has adapted and changed over the past few years. Out in cyberspace you don’t have to be 18 or have a credit card, and statistics show it’s not just a “guy thing” anymore. Accessibility is easier than ever, more private, and even mobile. What can you do to protect your home, your son, daughter, and yourself from the bombardment of temptations, lustful solicitations, and “accidents” that so frequently happen in cyberspace? Come discover the tools you can use and resources that are out there to help families win the war against internet pornography.

General Session 2: “Today’s Internet Environment”

Adult Topic: “Online Predators, Crimes, and Prevention”& “Identity Theft”

The first half of this session will be with a special guest speaker from the Knoxville Sheriff’s Department, this half of the session will be an in-depth look at the World Wide Web from the perspective of online predators and internet crimes. Various types of internet crimes will be discussed, and you will be given valuable advice about what you can do help protect your kids and family from these attacks.

The second half of this session will be focused on identity theft and generic internet safety procedures for you as an adult. We will discuss online banking, personal data—when is it safe to enter it into that online form—and other things along those lines.

Teen Topic: “With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility”

The first half of this session will be spent discussing the responsibility that you have when it comes to internet browsing. Every decision you make while on the internet impacts your life in some way. You can promote a positive self-image and a safe environment or you can create a negative self-image and a dangerous environment. What kind of information should you give out while on the internet? How much should you tell strangers about yourself? What details are okay to give out on MySpace and Facebook? What should you do if confronted by a stranger? All of these questions will be discussed.

The second half of this session will be spent with a detective from the Knoxville Sheriff’s Department. He will discuss in more detail the internet crimes that are going on and the predators that commit them. Furthermore, he will give you valuable advice about how to avoid these situations and what to do when you find yourself in one.

General Session 3: “How to Use a Web Browser”

Adult Topic: “How to Use a Web Browser like a Teenager”

Have you ever wondered what the World Wide Web was like for a teenager? Do you want to know more about MySpace and Facebook and if these sites are safe for your teens? Have you ever wanted to know what your teen was doing on the internet or on MySpace or Facebook but didn’t know how to check it out? Did you know your teenager can be 18 on the internet at 13 in real life? This class is going to show you ways teenagers navigate the internet, how you can know more about web browsers than they do (hopefully), and give you tips on how to talk to your teenager about their “Viewing History.” The issue of cell-phone porn will also be discussed.

Teen Topic: “How to Use a Web Brower like a Christian”

The first half of the session will be split between guys and girls:

Guys will split off from the girls and have a discussion about the temptations that confront them on a daily basis and why it is so difficult to fight back. You will look at men of the Bible who have dealt with sexual temptations and how they dealt with them: successfully or failing. This class will equip you with the tools you need to stand firm in cyberspace and protect your sexuality from Satan’s attacks.

Girls will be in a separate class dealing with the struggles of living in a world that constantly tells you that you’re not good enough. Do you know how your time on the internet affects your self-image? Do you spend time feeding yourself lies and living a fake life on the internet because you aren’t happy with the one you have now? This class will help you deal with those issues and teach you how to protect your mind, heart, and body in cyberspace.

The second half of the session will be all together:

You may think you can live a double life on the internet: one life in public and one life in the deleted file. But what if instead of thinking about what you can get away with when no one’s watching, you started to think about how to glorify God by using your time on the internet for fun things that are appropriate. This class will equip you with tons of ideas and things you can do on the internet without putting yourself at risk or walking into temptation.

General Session 4: “Winning the Internet War”

Hopefully by this point you’ll realize that pornography and internet safety is not something to be taken lightly. This is a war that Satan has waged against the American home and the American Christian. Whether or not you’re married, have a son, or only have girls, you need to know how to fight back and win this war. It’s not just about pornography, but about being safe, removing temptations, having accountability, and making wise decisions in cyberspace. This final session will equip you with tools and resources to help your family (or just you) win the internet war. You will receive real life practical advice about free downloads and other precautionary devices you can easily set-up yourself to protect you and your family from Satan’s attacks. Regardless of how much you knew about internet safety when you arrived, you’ll leave feeling prepared, equipped, and excited about these new possibilities and the new freedom you’ll experience when your house is a “safe-zone” from internet porn.
